Barriers to effective leadership

Simply too much, too often, with no escape in sight. Executives cope by literally failing to see the problem.  Overwhelmed executives have significant blind spots. They literally can’t or won’t see what others are seeing in the organization. As a result, support for leadership ebbs away and, thus, the problem(s) worsens.

Failure to Act

Executives fail to act either because similar problems have not been successfully resolved in the past or the costs of a wrong decision are too high. Leadership teams and staff are much more willing to forgive a wrong decision, than they are the failure to act altogether.

Failure to Communicate

When suffering from not feeling good about their performance, executives sequester themselves in the office and don’t communicate with others. Again, this failure is deadly to a leader.

How coaching resolves the barriers

In executive or business coaching, you examine the barriers in your unique situation, particularly what is missing from your toolbox that created the barrier. You learn how to attack that list of missing skills and knowledge head on until the barriers quietly slip away.

The mechanics of an effective coaching relationship

Your coaching sessions with PGS are usually 1/2 hour in length via phone, Skype or in person. The duration of the coaching relationship varies widely and is determined by you. Some engagements last only one month in situations where an executive simply needed to get over a hurdle, after which they were back on step. However, some relationships have lasted for well over a year when the “coachee” is transitioning into a new position of leadership.
