Small to Mid-Size Businesses

Unique needs of Small to Mid-sized Businesses

In our work with small to mid sized businesses, we have found that the majority are living under the old adage “needing to do more with less”. Processes need to be streamlined, with no unnecessary steps that waste time and money. These organizations can’t afford a mistake, i.e. a false start or an initiative that is not well-executed. Therefore we have designed our products to meet the demands these organizations have.

How do PGS products and services address the unique needs of Small to Mid-sized Businesses:

  • Quality tools fast : We guarantee a rapid turnaround time between conducting the engagement with the client to leadership having the product in hand and ready to use.
  • Coaching for results: All of our products include follow-up coaching after the plan or tool is in place. The tools become part of how leadership leads, which is especially important for small organizations that lack management experience.
  • Time is of the essence: Our engagement with a client is focused, with value placed on delivering a high quality product with a low investment of time since time is a scarce commodity.
  • Alignment: Finally, with all of our products assure that there is alignment throughout leadership to the outcomes the product is intended to create by beginning with some discovery work. For example, early work includes developing the long range vision and values for a strategic plan, identifying the foundation pieces of a high-profile project or outlining the benefits of a process improvement. Without alignment there will not be good execution.

Examples

Challenge

Sprouts Farmers Markets was in its infancy with but five stores when PGS was asked in 2005 to complete an organizational assessment and develop a strategic plan to move the organization forward.

Solution

The project led to 1) restructuring of the governing board and management and 2) addressing fundamental issues that were critical to successful growth. Completion of that initial strategic plan became the foundation for an explosive period of growth and profitability reaching over 200 stores and industry leading profitability in 2013. Sprouts is now on its way to a national presence having recently gone public.

Challenge

Northern Air Cargo needed to fix problems in its cargo processing system.

Solution

We worked with NAC to evaluate the current process, define an optimal one and put in place the plan to implement needed changes. The result? The average time for processing cargo dropped from as much as 30 minutes to under 10, and there were no more complaints from customers. See the full case study here.

Challenge

A municipal courthouse was moving to new digs. They had a short window to move offices, equipment, transfer all communications, get computers and security systems moved, up and running, etc. so that service to the community was not disrupted.

Solution

They chose Dynamic Planning as the tool to map out the process. The team developed a track of everything from coordinating the preparations to the actual physical moving of furniture, etc. As they followed the plan leading up to and through the move-in date, the preparations went smoothly and the final move was problem-free.
